LIFE CHANGING
MOMENT
There can be many things that can
change a person’s life; here is my most significant life changing
moment.
I’ll tell you a little about me and
who I am. I am Jake Lewis, a 17 year old high school student at Desert Oasis High School. I
am a very quiet person and mostly shy around others. I was very active and social when I was
young. I would play with my friends, play video games, and I played competitive sports. My
life took a turn when I was 13 years old and started 7th grade. Things just haven’t been the
same since then.
In my 7th grade year I started to
become lazy, and I didn’t feel like doing a thing. My grades started to decline rapidly which
made my mother concerned. The year before I was active, social, and an outgoing person. I was
willing to do anything fun or interesting. My grades were very good and I was interested in
school.
My mom was very confused on how I
suddenly took a turn for the worst. My test scores were lower than ever before and school was
very tough for me.
My mom couldn’t figure out what was
going on, so she had me tested. I was first diagnosed with a form of dyslexia, a learning
disorder. So my mother went out to find some help for me. She found a doctor who studied the
human brain, and I had my brain tested. We found out that I have a very slow frontal lobe
[the cause of which has not been established].
I was sent to a specialist who set
me up on a machine that re-trains your brain, it is called Neuro Feedback. It made a major
difference which helped me get through 9th grade.
At the end of 9th grade things
started to get bad again. I started to develop anxiety that played tricks with my mind.
During my sophomore year I had a major panic attack that caused me to miss several school
days. My mind would wonder, and I couldn’t control what I was thinking
about.
My biggest problem was thinking of
throwing up. My energy levels were not normal and I had no self-motivation. I finally
couldn’t take it anymore and I went to a psychiatrist. He put me on medication which I
thought was the answer at that time. It put some life back into me, and I had the energy to
do the things I wanted to do. Things were slowly starting to get better, but after about five
months I started to have bad thoughts again, and I had trouble
eating.
My motivation went down to the
point that I didn’t want to do anything. My doctor changed my medicine around which helped me
eat more and gain 30 pounds. However, my motivation still wasn’t where I wanted it to
be.
My psychiatrist was trying to
figure out why I felt like this. He had been researching, studying, and practicing an ancient
Chinese healing art called Qigong. It’s a healing art that uses natural life energy and
meditation to heal the mind, body, and soul.
My doctor was in contact with a
master healer in Los Angeles, and he arranged for her to come teach in Las Vegas. When I
heard about that I signed up for the class [and a healing session].
Since that class I have been
practicing Qigong through a DVD. I watch a master healer do breathing, muscle, and body
exercises, and I create pure energy to help me.
I no longer have panic attacks and
my motivation and energy is off the charts good. My grades are the best they have ever been
with straight A’s and my testing is higher than ever in my life.
I contact my master healer every
week to check up on how things are going. My life took a turn through the worst, but
everything I have been through has helped me learn so much about myself. I believe and know
Qigong will guide me through these rough times and let me live my life to its
fullest.
This is my most significant life
changing moment.

that Jake wrote for one of his classes. His mother thought I should see it. Jake gave
me permission to print it.)
